Happiness is an ice cream cone. This is what I tell my children. Happiness is not peace. Happiness is not joy. Happiness is fleeting and from this world.
While you are eating the ice cream - you are happy. It's so delicious - melts in your mouth - sweet - yummy - blaa blaa blaa. But it melts, it gets eaten and two minutes after you're done, you want more. An ice cream cone doesn't last. It is like happiness; it lasts a short while.
I believe we all pursue of Joy - our soul longs for it. We all seek peace - peace of mind - peace in our life.

Have you wondered, "What is my purpose in life?"
For me, I asked that question. I looked for the answer in many places and in many ways. None were satisfying, some were hurtful.
I went to grade school (1-8) at a Catholic school near my home in
Waukesha Wisconsin. My mother (Lord bless her) was raised Catholic in
her first generation immigrant family. I remember talking to God as a
youngster in church, staring at Jesus on the cross. I believed in him
as a 10 year old does. I went to confessional and the whole nine
yards. But I never knew what it meant to have a personal relationship
with Jesus. By 7th and 8th grade I fell away from the church and
followed the world's view.
After so many years looking to the world for purpose and not finding it, I turned back to God.
He answered!
I listened!

If you have the seed planted in your heart, what's your dirt like?
Read Luke 8:4-15
The question is, Can you change your dirt?
Are we stuck with rocks in our head or heart?
Do we let worldly ways give us pleasure and pain?
Or can we (me) change our dirt, pull out the weeds (with help) and let the seed grow and mature?
I believe every one of us can change, grow, and mature with the help of the Holy Spirit, the unconditional love through Jesus the Christ, the guidance from God's word, the faith in His promise, and God's amazing grace.
Laughingly, I look at my past and see all the manure. As time goes by, I can foresee the manure turing into good soil. And I have faith that by persevering and walking the narrow path, the good crop will be my children and my service to Him.
Peace & Joy,
Jeff
